Album Information
In the Zone is the fourth album from American pop music singer Britney Spears, released on November 18, 2003.
In the Zone is widely considered Spears' most overtly sexual album yet (for instance, the song "Touch of My Hand" refers to masturbation). Spears co-wrote eight of the thirteen tracks. The album debuted at #1 on the US Billboard 200 chart (making her the only female artist in SoundScan history to have her first four albums debut at #1), #2 on the Canadian charts, within the top ten of the Australian charts and within the top twenty of the UK charts.
The lead single, "Me Against the Music" (featuring Madonna) only reached #35 on the Billboard Hot 100, but it was a smash in the rest of the world, reaching #1 in Australia and #2 in the UK and Canada. Overall, it ranked on thirty-two different charts around the world. The follow-up single "Toxic", co-written by Cathy Dennis, became a worldwide hit and charted on over thiry different charts throughout the world.
It reached #1 in the UK, Canada and Australia and went top ten in the US. In 2005, Spears won her first Grammy Award for "Toxic" in the category of Best Dance Recording. The third single, "Everytime" (a piano ballad) was also very successful, reaching the top twenty of the US charts, #1 on the UK and Australian charts and #2 in Canada. The fourth single, "Outrageous", was only released in the US. There was no video for the song due to the supposed severe knee injury Spears suffered while filming the video; because of this, the song performed somewhat poorly on the charts.
Though less successful than her previous three albums, Zone has still managed to sell close to 3 million copies (2x platinum RIAA certification) in the US. Zone was re-released as a DualDisc on April 26, 2005. It featured the videos for "Toxic", "Everytime", and "Megamix" on the DVD side.
