This is the tale of Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas. Bonr and raised in the Oriente Province of Cuba in the 1940s, Arenas began his lasting adore of the marine and water. Leaving home as a young person, he goes to Havana where he finds himself swept up in the revolutionary soul and enters a ring of artists and writers.
 His initial book, "Singing from the Well," is issued in Cuba, but as Castro's domineering rule gathers power, Arenas' homosexuality and political writing make him a target. After being mistakenly accused of molestation, Arenas is took into custody at El Morro.
Eventually liberated after dehumanizing behavior, Arenas escapes from Cuba in the 1980 Mariel Harbor boatlift. After moving to New York with his friend Lazaro Gomez Carilles, Arenas' expectss for a new life are damaged by AIDS, and he dies in 1993, at the age of 45.
